The carbine was developed during the Civil War years but the many of these carbines never saw action in the war and were later sold under contract to foreign countries

Clearly this Musket was obtained by the Royal Navy and issued to the huge ship yards located at Chatham in Kent where many of Nelson's man-o-war battle ships were built
